I don't often cut myself while shaving...but when I do, I really fucking gouge myself. Oh, my lord.

I think part of the problem is that I'm too used to shaving with old razors. So when I finally get off my butt and buy a fresh one, I just start digging in as if I'm working with a rusty spoon. Boom: instant fail. Also, I have a high pain tolerance, so I don't realize I've cut myself until I rinse off the shampoo and see blood everywhere.

This is not the first time I've made a total hash of my attempts to remove body hair, but this is the first time I've injured myself so splendidly. I sliced up both my shins, and my right elbow. Awesome! Also, I discovered too late that my first-aid kit is basically empty, so I ended up hopping around, dripping blood everywhere, trying to find some gauze and tape so I could MacGyver up a band-aid.

I'm thinking about switching to waxing, but man. I'd probably give myself second-degree burns. I am feeling sadly inept right now...

This is why I switched to those Venus things. Have you tried them? I have a harder time slicing myself with those for some reason. Kind of expensive, but....

I think I tried those a long time ago! They are expensive, but perhaps it's worth it, if they'll help me not slice off bits of my own flesh. :/

I periodically wax, but I use the unfortunately-named Nads stuff - it's a cool wax, so you don't need to get it HOT - if the room is cold, 5 or 10 seconds in the microwave gets it just fine. You end up thoroughly sticky, so it's best to lay out a big towel or sheet to sit on while you're doing it, but at least it washes off with cool water and no burns! (I do advise testing it after nuking it Just In Case.)

Ooh. That would be good. I'm kind of nervous about using the sort of wax you have to actually heat up because, um, yeah, super accident-prone over here. I may try that stuff though. Thanks for the recommendation!

I suggest an epilator!

Seconded!

I know the razor problem, too, though (sliced up the skin right over my achilles tendon once), and wax is such a hassle. I guess the best would be going to a studio to get a good wax job, but paying for something I can do myself doesn't compute (even when I'm not good and too lazy, i.e. walking around like the Yeti eery couple of weeks...).

Yeah, I've gotten professionally waxed a couple times in the past, but it's so expensive, and such a hassle to make appointments. Ha! I am also a Yeti, hence the need for intensive hair-removal methods! XD

Ohh, good idea! Have you ever used one? Do they work well? I've heard pretty good things about them from other people.

From my experience (and I've been using them off and on since I was sixteen), the first time hurtssssss. But you get used to it and it becomes more of a prickly, stingy sensation once you just keep going without hesitating at every tweeze, haha. XD I'm using a simple model, though (Braun Silk epil), and I've heard the newer models can even epilate under water... that might be good, but I haven't tried those yet!

I haven't used one because I'm still saving up (everything is so expensive in Australia!) but a former flatmate used one and she recommended them enthusiastically. Hers worked really well. I really want one because I'm incapable of either waxing or shaving my knees!

I'm kind of scared of the whole was thing too. I also have the type of Venus razor and very happy about it. I also have an electric one for the cases in which I'm too lazy :P

Funny thing, when I read the first line of your post, where you said you cut yourself shaving, I actually for a second wondered how come I never knew you were a guy, before I realized what you were talking about. Wow, I definitely need more sleep!

Electric razors! I should try one of those too!

Boy, I'm glad I made this post about my ineptitude with razors. XD I'm getting all kinds of great suggestions.

Ahaha! Nah, I'm definitely a girl. Just a hairy girl! I've actually had that experience before, though...realizing someone you only know online is a different gender from what you thought. It's pretty awkward!
