Classes (and more importantly, finals) are done! I am free for the summer! YAY! So far, I have been celebrating my glorious freedom from the shackles of higher education by...playing computer games. And sleeping a lot. And eating yummy foods that have absolutely zero nutritional value. I highly recommend all these methods of celebration, by the way. And! I've been doing a lot of putzing around the house. I'm planning to redo my bedroom and bathroom a bit, so I've bought fabric to make new curtains and throw pillows, and plan to attempt to make a couple simple sundresses as well. I've already started on the bathroom curtains, and they are looking rather spiffy if I do say so myself. I'm relatively inexperienced with sewing, but it's working out well and it makes me very happy.

As a reward for surviving the semester, I went out on Friday and bought myself some new CDs and other little trinkets, and checked out a bunch of books from the library. Aaahh. Is there any better way to kick off a vacation than with a stack of new books to read? I do not think so.

I have fabulously exciting plans for the next few days, which mainly consist of going to a small local benefit concert and hitting Home Depot for a new curtain rod and other various and sundry items for home renovation. Oh, and I may even see a movie! At the movie theater! Thrilling! Also, I plan to goof off more.

On another note, several people have commented to me recently that I have seemed very happy lately. It's true, I am a very content and chipper [livejournal.com profile] cicer these days. I don't know if that comes through on this journal very much, since I pretty much never post just to say 'I had a good day today!' In fact, I don't post too much at all. I've been quiet for the last six months to a year or so, I know, but I'm still here, I still love LiveJournal and all the people on it, and I still care deeply about fandom. I don't post about fannish things very often these days, and I do feel vaguely guilty about that. I used to do frequent rec posts and meta posts and the like, but I've stopped doing that in the past months. Part of it has been a time issue; I just no longer have the time or energy to make giant rec posts on a regular basis. But I don't really know what the other reasons are. As I said, I still adore fandom and still read fic voraciously and spend a lot of time thinking fannish thoughts. Somehow that hasn't been translating much to this journal, though. I don't know why. I've made various efforts to galvanize myself to post more, but none of them have really 'stuck'. Probably because of the time think. Perhaps now that schools out I can do a little better. Perhaps not.

As I said, I do feel kind of guilty for not posting about fannish stuff more. It feels sort of like I'm shirking some kind of responsibility, which I know is silly. But I feel like I ought to be participating more, and get anxious when I don't. I'm not sure what to do about this feeling. I fret that the people reading this journal get bored with hearing about my day-to-day life. If that is the case, I want to remind everyone who follows this humble little journal that they are free to defriend whenever they like; I most certainly will not take it personally. People's interests diverge sometimes, so if you find that we don't seem to be on the same wavelength anymore, it's totally OK to stop reading. This is, of course, not an encouragement for anyone to go! I love you all and still read everyone's posts, even if I don't comment. It's just a reminder that I never take offense to defriending, since I know some people worry about that sort of thing.

Getting back on topic, though. I'm not sure what prompted this little bout of navel-gazing, though I think [livejournal.com profile] scribblemoose's recent (and wonderfully worded) post on the subject contributed to it. She really hit the nail on the head when it comes to a lot of what I've been thinking and feeling about fandom and online life lately. So I basically just want to echo what she said, to whomever might be reading this: I care. I am interested in what you have to say. I love hearing about other people's thoughts and experiences, in anything. Anytime anyone wants to talk to me...please, go for it. I tresure every little conversation I have with all of you, no matter how short or how silly.

So! Tell me stuff! What you did today, what you've been reading, whatever. Ask me questions, if you like, or I can ask you some! Let's chat!

I'm glad you're happy!

What kind of curtain rod are you getting?

I'm not entirely sure! Probably just a plain one, since I want to make a cornice board too. So it'll be covered up. I'll probably just get whatever looks inexpensive and serviceable.

What have you been up to lately? (Love your new layout, by the way!)

Ooh, that'll be cool.

Not much! Writing a little, working a lot. Doing some volunteer work for a new nonprofit that's driving me a little nuts, but overall, I'm good. (Thanks!)

Well done on the finals, first of all! I'm glad you're happy too. :)

Have you been keeping up with your fannish interests, like the latest chapters of Saiyuki?

Thanks!

Indeed I have! I've become totally dependent on RFB for my Saiyuki fixes now that things seem to be heating up in both Reload and Gaiden. I'm also super excited about the release of Reload volume 8, and I've already preordered a copy. I can't wait to get my mitts on it.

What about you? Have you been doing any interesting fannish things lately, or checking out new books or manga series?

Oh, congratulations on finishing! Happy summer to you! I'm v v v glad that you are happy, and I hope you are happy for a long time to come. <3

I, um. I just got back from my first con ever and I sold art and omg. It was insane. @_@ But successful. I'm pleased. :D I'm also working, which is fun! I'm glad to have something to do, and it's nice work; I'm at a local college's press, and I do layout and collate and fold and stuff. Pretty satisfying work, actually. XD;

Thank you! You are sweet. I hope you're happy, too!

Ooo! Congrats on your sales! It sounds like you had a blast, and I'm terribly envious. I've got to go to a con someday.

That sounds like a cool job! Doing layouts sounds like it would be fun and artistic. I'm glad you like your job!

Hee. Yes'm, I am happy. It was a long semester, and I'm glad it's done. It looks like it'll be a nice summer, too. :)

It was fun! Exhausting. But fun! Just so you know, the D.Gray-Man group made me think of you. XD Kanda ended up with kitty-ears that were really, really cute. I regret not managing to get a photo of them sob.

Congrats on reaching your Summer of freedom and for achieving happiness. Happiness is a very good thing. I'm never bored reading your real life stuff, though my RL stuff means I read more than I comment.

My RL stuff being two small children and masses of sleep deprivation and returning to work etc etc etc. I'd like to post about fannish stuff occasionally but apart from burying my brain in comfort Sragate Atlantis fic when I'm too tired for anything else and happen to have a free half hour (the former condition being common, the latter being rare), I'm not doing much fannish stuff. Why SGA? I have no idea. I've never even watched it but there's readily available good fic. :-)

Thank you!

I hope you are doing better with the sleeping thing! I feel so bad for you. Insomnia is the worst. Feel better!

Isn't it nice to dip into a new and different fandom? I always get excited when I check out a new series, because there's so much new fic to enjoy.

Congratulations on finishing your finals!

I'm glad to hear you're doing well and that you have new curtains in the offing. I keep thinking I ought to make some for my guest room, but since I'm utterly inept with a sewing machine, it's a matter of waiting to stumble across a ready-made set that strikes my fancy. Still, when I read this the first time, I had the sudden idea that perhaps you were going to make curtains, throw pillows and sundresses all from the same fabric, and the "Sound of Music" memories all but swamped me. XD Are you planning to coordinate yourself to your environment to quite that degree, and if so: what are your thoughts for style vs. the natural camouflage instincts of, say, the cuttlefish?

(Around here, there has been a great deal of drinking fairly recently, so I hope you'll forgive my rather odd humor at the moment - er, musical/cuttlefish references and all. >_>;)

Thank you!

I too am very inexpert with the sewing machine, but I managed to finish my curtains tonight! They look rather amateurish, I admit, but since they're the first curtains I've ever made, I remain stubbornly proud of them. XD I think maybe I'll put pictures up as soon and I buy a curtain rod and get them up.

Bwah! No, no, it's not all from the same fabric! That would be really cool though! I would indeed like to mimic the cuttlefish. That would be a handy technique to have.

(Hee! Don't worry, I don't mind at all. Enjoy your drinks!)

YAY FOR HOLIDAY HAPPY TIME!

I kind of forget what holidays are like, myself. Work is frazzling (which is a combination of fraught and dazzling!) and I get that thing you were saying about ENERGY = NONE.

Hmm. Today? Today I finished a draft document a day ahead of time, and then spent 3 or so mostly guilt-free hours contemplating telling someone I was finished ahead of time. That was fun. Although I'm all headachey, so not fun. But I was just looking at picspams for BL movies I downloaded - fun! But now I have a new document to write - Theory of Constraints - and I assume it's *not* about B&D, so not fun.

But then again, constraints... Restraints... Gojyo... Or possibly John Sheppard. Mmmm. And we're back to 'fun' again!

delurks from out of nowwhere *cough* I hope the offer for conversation is valid for half strangers as well?

Good to hear you're happy ^_^
Have you thought about what kind of curtain?
Actually, this reminds me of moving to my student apartment (from where I'm moving away just this week). The curtains they had there originally were very...ugly, but fortunately my mom spotted ones that were on sale while we were shopping for other things. (Like a pepper mill. The one I bough it shaped like a bunny...but it was cheapest! >_>;
Btw, My curtains are red with greyish flowers and grey with red flowers (couldn't choose) :P

And lately I've been...watching Star Trek (teh orinal series), among other things. =_=;
Because it's imprtant to be familiar with the history of one's interest, that's all...>3> and I wasn't geeky enough as it was, I guess :P
