What sort of software would you recommend for burning DVDs? I'm trying to learn how, since my new laptop had a DVD burner, but I don't really know how to do it. Any suggestions?

Netflix?

I am one of the last holdouts, one of the people who has never used Netflix. But right now, there a really a lot of DVDs that I'd love to see that I have no other way of getting ahold of. And I'm really not willing to shell out the money to buy these things, because a) that's way too expensive and b) I'm not even sure I'll like them that much. So I'm thinking about signing up.

I'm a little uncertain about this, so I'm appealing to those of you who are or were members. Did you like it? Would you recommend it? Is a it a good deal, a good service? Let me know.
cicer: (kanzeon)
Okay, who wants to beta my really crappy Kougaiji app? I'm trying to get it wrapped by ASAP, since I won't be home until really, really late tomorrow, and it's due Thursday. So if anyone's online tonight or tomorrow morning and wants to look it over, I'd be ever so grateful! *flutters eyelashes*

I just bought myself a laptop. Totally spur-of-the-moment, becuase I found a great deal, and classes start next week, and I've been doing more writing than ever, and dammit, I need it. I am very, very excited.

Also, I had such a blast sending out holiday cards a couple months ago, I think I'd like to send out valentines! Leave your address in the poll below if you'd like to get one from me! Feel free to comment with any extra requests, too. Want it to be from your favorite character? I can do that, too! ♥

[livejournal.com profile] ann89103! Thank you so much for the paid time and extra userpics! ♥ That is so kind of you! Thank you so much!

Can I write you some fic as a token of my gratitude? What would you like? Name it, it's yours! :)

Now for a Fearsome Beta Request

So, remember that uber-long Hakkai/Gojyo epic I wrote before NaNoWriMo? Well, it's all typed up and in the process of being edited, and I'd like to get it out in the next couple weeks. But because of the sheer length of the darn thing, I'm wary of putting it up without someone doing a beta job. Still, because of the length I'm also afraid to ask anybody to do it! It's around 12,000 words, and it's broken up into about six nice, bite-sized chapters, and if I could bribe/coerce one or more of you into giving it a quick lookover (doesn't have to be anything in-depth, just a quick glance for glaring typos or OOCness or the like) that would be totally awesome. So, um, anyone wanna give me a hand? I'll give you cookies...

Help?

Uh, my Windows Media Player seems to have died. That is, I can open it and "play" songs and stuff, but there's no sound. The songs seems to be playing fine, it's not like I can't open the files or anything. And I can play vids and stuff and the visuals are fine, just...no sound. I know it's not my speakers, because the computer still makes all the propers sounds and stuff, and I popped in a video game, and that played perfectly, sound and all. So clearly it's WMP issue. But I have no idea what it going on, or how I would go about fixing it. Any suggestions?

As I mentioned in the previous entry, the holiday drabbles have gotten too long to write in the cards as I originally planned. I was puzzled, trying to figure out what to do, until I remembered I have a paid account, and I can make polls and force other people to decide things for me! YAY!

[Poll #622760]

Also, it is Sanzo's birthday today! Happy Birthday, Sanzo! I may post a bit of fic I recently dug out of my WIP file in honor of this hallowed day!
cicer: (hakkai/gojyo kiss)
[livejournal.com profile] louiselux has an excellent discussion about whether or not Sanzo is a virgin. Very, very interesting. It's making me want to dig out my vigin!Sanzo fic again. Curses!

On a Deaf Ear by [livejournal.com profile] trensaddiction. ...I really don't know what to say to this one. It's beautiful. I cried. *shuffles of to sob quietly*

Damage Control by [livejournal.com profile] hibem. OMFG HOT. *drools a little*

_

I'm continuing to work on the holiday card drabbles, which are ending up a lot longer than I planned. The average length is about 350 words right now. Oops. I may have to just print the page out and stick it in the card, 'cause it's too long to write in. Or maybe I should just post it online? That way everyone could see the porn lovely and thoughtful drabbles which do not appeal to cheap, tawrdy minds at all, really? Thoughts?
_

Also, good luck to all of you wrapping up your NaNoNovels! Go, go! You can do it!

Bzuh?

Okay, Barnes and Noble tells me that the second volume of Saiyuki Reload doesn't come out till mid-December, but when I just checked Amazon it says it came out on September 30. Huh? Did I miss something? I'm inclined to believe B&N, since Amazon is crap at keeping track of which volume of a manga is which, but still. I'd hate to have missed out on the lastest volume for over a month!
cicer: (bang)
Why do all name generators put out names that sound like someone either bashed the keyboard with their head, or strung a bunch of random consonents together? I need good names, dammit!

Also, I found a site that proclaims that it comes up with completely "unique" baby names. Most of them are horrible ones like "Thukigen" and "Qusmame", though it also suggested "Ligur".

...I so totally dare somebody to name their kid that. Bonus points if you name the next kid "Hatsur".

Things That Will Eat Your Brain: All Your Base Rhapsody I am so very dead. *brain explodes in hilarity*

Saiyuki art commentary, vol. 8 by [livejournal.com profile] kate_nepveu. Very interesting. I love examining the flow of art in Saiyuki. It's exceptionally well-done.

[livejournal.com profile] louiselux asked for Saiyuki recs. Lots of good recommendations in the comments.

lost fic

Gyar. I suck at keeping track of the fics I read. I just read one with Gojyo/Hakkai no!limiter!sex set sometime in Reloaded, I think. They were at some village that they just saved, and Gojyo was hitting on some chick and her boyfriend, and then they went off into the woods together. And talked about youkai clans and had sex. And that's all I remember about the fic. And now I can't find it, which is frustrating, because that was pretty much what inspired this long-ass 85 fic I'm working on now and I wanted to reference it. Gah. *headdesk* I do this every other week, it seems like. I'm totally incapable of remembering who wrote what fic, or where I found it.

ETA: Yay! Thank you so much, [livejournal.com profile] wk_recomend! The fic is Nature Nurture by [livejournal.com profile] devikun. I highly recommend it!

Trying to add a banner to my journal is killing my sanity. It will not work, no matter how many tutorials I reference.

Okay, so here is the deal. I'm using Flexible Squares. I have this text in my theme:

layerinfo "type" = "theme";
layerinfo "name" = "banner";

function Page::print_custom_head() {
"""

""";
}

I went to Edit Customizations--->Background and put in Background Image URL, Don't Repeat, Top, Scroll, etc.

It still won't work. To be specific, the banner shows up, but you can barely see it, because the layout is on top of it.

Can someone explain this to me, in small words and easy to understand terms? I'm about to kill myself in frustration here.

I've been fiddling around with my journal layout for awhile now, wanting to make a new one but not really having any ideas of what to do with it. And I realized I still don't know how to do certain things. *facepalms* I've been using LJ for about two years now. You'd think I'd have it down, but no.

How do you put a picture up at the top of you journal? I can't figure out how to do that. I guess you have to use S1, but I don't know the coding.

How do you install a custom mood theme? I cannot figure that out at all.

How do you make a section-within-a-section in memories? Like, if you wanted to have a writing folder and then a folder for Saiyuki, a folder for Weiss Kreuz, etc?

This egg hatches on September 25, 2005! Adopt one today!

Found this on friendsfriends. *prods egg expectantly* I have no idea what it's supposed to do, but I suppose that's rather beside the point.

Quick Rec: [livejournal.com profile] louiselux had killed me with this ficlet. *dead from the cute and funny* I heart Hakkai in this. I also heart Gojyo. Oh, and Goku. Hell, I heart everyone in this fic. *loves*

I am consumed with icon-making once again, because one can never have too many icons, you know. Icons are kind of strange things, especially because in the facelessness of the internet I think we begin to associate them with people. At least, I do. I love looking at other people's icons, whether they're funny, silly, pretty, deep, artistic, or whatever. So I'd like to invite all of you out there to tell me which of my icons you like best, or which ones you associate with me. I'd also like it if other people were to pick this up as a kind of meme, and let everyone tell them what they like about their icons, which ones make them laugh, and which ones they'll forever associate with tht person. So if you want to do that, please be my guest!

Sometime within the last few weeks I read a fic that someone on my flist read of recced, and now I can't find it. Which makes me sad, because I really liked it. It was a Kenren/Tenpou fic that basically involved the two of them first meeting, and Kenren trying to woo Tenpou by sneding him gifts and things. And then there was sex. And it was good. Does that ring any bells for anybody?

ETA: It's The Courtship of Tenpou Gensui by [livejournal.com profile] mistressrenet. Thank you, [livejournal.com profile] louiselux!
cicer: (vision)
[livejournal.com profile] muse_secrets is totally eating my brain. I love this idea, and I now I want to do a whole bunch of them. Any requests for characters you'd like to see a secret for?

Also, I think I've made more icons in the past week than in the rest of my life combined, and I'm still nowhere near filling up all 100 slots. So many shiny icons!
cicer: (bullet)
I am so totally spamming my flist today. *coughs in embarrasssment*

Would anyone be willing to do a quick-and-dirty beta of a Crawford/Schuldig [livejournal.com profile] yaoi_challenge fic I'm finishing up? It's already several days late, so you don't need to spend a lot of time on it, just pick out the biggest bugs. It's only about 1,000 words. Any takers?

Also, a random rec. Linked by [livejournal.com profile] daegaer, Tomorrow Won't Do. Really nifty original story.
cicer: (kanzeon)
Okay, so what exactly are "bit torrents", and how do you play them? I gather it's some kind of video file, and I found a site with a lot of anime things that I'd like to download, but I have absolutely no idea how to go about doing that. Seriously, no idea. I don't even know what these "torrents" are. Um, smart people? A little help for the ignorant folk?

I swear, one of these days I am going to stop posting lame entries begging for help and start posting interesting things. I WILL! REALLY! ANY DAY NOW!!

How does one put a nifty banner-type picture at the top of one's LJ? All the cool people have them and I can't figure out how to do it.

Also, I lost my scanlations of the Saiyuki Burial arc to the swarming mess that is my harddrive. Can anyone send a new copy to me via yousendit? I would love you forever and ever.

Writing is coming along at a snail's pace. My 358 fic is inching along, but it's pretty much the only thing I'm making progress with. I have another fic that's in the editing stages, but I can't quite make it work. I may end up soliciting for a beta in the next couple days. Be warned.

I still have to finish my Greed drabble which was due two weeks ago, and another Easter Egg ficlet which is so overdue it's humiliating. Oh yeah, I'm a winnar. *facepalms*

Also, job-hunting is really hard. *whimpers* Someone hire me already!
