Feb. 10th, 2011 02:37 pmContinuing the theme of "stuff what I've been doin' this year"...
I chopped off all my hair! OK, not all of it. But it's super-short now. I usually keep my hair anywhere between chin length and shoulder length, which I guess it short by most people's standards. But I haaate the feeling of hair falling in my face, so no matter how short my hair was, I always pinned, braided, or otherwise tied it back. Eventually, I got the bright idea to just get a pixie-cut so I wouldn't have to go to the hassle of always scrounging around for a hair tie. (This became especially necessary once I started kickboxing classes, because vigorous jumping around made my hair fall down, no matter how snugly I tied it back.) But I'm kind of a weenie about change, so I put off getting my hair whacked off, until a good friend of mine got a pixie cut and looked utterly adorable. So I gathered up my courage, went to the hair salon last week, and just did it. And now, of course, I wish I'd done it months ago. So breezy and convenient! No hair falling in my face! I hardly need any shampoo or styling time! I love it. Short hair, woo!
Also, I kind of decided to do the "fifty books into fifty weeks" challenge thingummy. I haven't actually posted anything to the
50bookchallenge community yet, but I have been reading a book a week, and it's been great for me. I basically stopped reading for pleasure during my undergrad years, simply because I was always so pressed for time, and also because I was doing so much fiction-reading for my courses that reading anything else felt like doing extra work. It's weird, I feel like I'm rediscovering the joy of reading at this point! Anyhow, I'll probably want to draw up short summaries of what I'm reading, what I thought of each book, etc. I'll be posting all that to the comm, natch, but shall I crosspost them here as well? I guess what I'm asking it, would anybody be interested in reading that stuff? Anyone? Bueller?
I am currently dealing with the Revenge of the Son of the Bride of the Sinus Infections, part 2: Electric Boogaloo. I had about a year, a lovely year, when I had no sinus infections whatsoever. It was glorious. Now I'm back to the old pattern of three-to-four sinus infections per year. Ugh. It's ridiculous, because at this point, there's nothing the doctors can do, short of surgery. Which I do not want. The problem is entirely structural. My sinuses are arranged, um, badly. So they don't drain properly, mucus pools, bacteria flourishes, la la la. ...Sorry, I hope you weren't eating while you read this? Anyhow. Nothing to be done for it, except round after round of antibiotics, and a regimen of nasal rinses (which I hate), steaming my sinuses, loading up on Sudafed, slapping on a BreatheRight strip, etc. It's super sexy, let me tell you. Orz.
I hope you folks are feeling better than I am! Tell me how things are going for you right now! Are you having a good day? Inquiring minds want to know!
