Continuing the theme of "stuff what I've been doin' this year"...

I chopped off all my hair! OK, not all of it. But it's super-short now. I usually keep my hair anywhere between chin length and shoulder length, which I guess it short by most people's standards. But I haaate the feeling of hair falling in my face, so no matter how short my hair was, I always pinned, braided, or otherwise tied it back. Eventually, I got the bright idea to just get a pixie-cut so I wouldn't have to go to the hassle of always scrounging around for a hair tie. (This became especially necessary once I started kickboxing classes, because vigorous jumping around made my hair fall down, no matter how snugly I tied it back.) But I'm kind of a weenie about change, so I put off getting my hair whacked off, until a good friend of mine got a pixie cut and looked utterly adorable. So I gathered up my courage, went to the hair salon last week, and just did it. And now, of course, I wish I'd done it months ago. So breezy and convenient! No hair falling in my face! I hardly need any shampoo or styling time! I love it. Short hair, woo!

Also, I kind of decided to do the "fifty books into fifty weeks" challenge thingummy. I haven't actually posted anything to the [livejournal.com profile] 50bookchallenge community yet, but I have been reading a book a week, and it's been great for me. I basically stopped reading for pleasure during my undergrad years, simply because I was always so pressed for time, and also because I was doing so much fiction-reading for my courses that reading anything else felt like doing extra work. It's weird, I feel like I'm rediscovering the joy of reading at this point! Anyhow, I'll probably want to draw up short summaries of what I'm reading, what I thought of each book, etc. I'll be posting all that to the comm, natch, but shall I crosspost them here as well? I guess what I'm asking it, would anybody be interested in reading that stuff? Anyone? Bueller?

I am currently dealing with the Revenge of the Son of the Bride of the Sinus Infections, part 2: Electric Boogaloo. I had about a year, a lovely year, when I had no sinus infections whatsoever. It was glorious. Now I'm back to the old pattern of three-to-four sinus infections per year. Ugh. It's ridiculous, because at this point, there's nothing the doctors can do, short of surgery. Which I do not want. The problem is entirely structural. My sinuses are arranged, um, badly. So they don't drain properly, mucus pools, bacteria flourishes, la la la. ...Sorry, I hope you weren't eating while you read this? Anyhow. Nothing to be done for it, except round after round of antibiotics, and a regimen of nasal rinses (which I hate), steaming my sinuses, loading up on Sudafed, slapping on a BreatheRight strip, etc. It's super sexy, let me tell you. Orz.

I hope you folks are feeling better than I am! Tell me how things are going for you right now! Are you having a good day? Inquiring minds want to know!

I'd love to hear about your reading!! I burned out on reading during grad school and have finally started dipping my toes back into reading again. I was just worded out in a way. Brain full, try again later.

It's been a little silly around here. We've had so much snow, and then the construction guys were drilling under my office (yesterday, back again today), and today we have mice. A friend of mine told me to bring some anti-Leviathan spray, just in case. *laughs*

Argh, sinuses! We hates them, my precious, especially when they're infected.

I have been busybusybusy spring cleaning today (and for several other days) because [livejournal.com profile] puddingcat is coming for the weekend!

Worded out, yes! That's exactly how it was for me. It's nice to be able to read for pleasure again, rather than for an assignment.

Ugh, snowpocalyse. I don't know how you poor folks in cold climates are managing. It sounds like it's been a really rough winter for much of the country. It's been unseasonably cold here too, but at least we don't get snow. Hang in there!

And eek, mice! Oh no! I hope you can get rid of them quickly! :/

Sinuses! Why are they so diabolical?!

Spring cleaning, hurray! I've been bitten by the spring cleaning bug myself, and have been discovering some really horrifying dust-bunny colonies under the furniture. Ack.

And yay for visits! I hope you and [livejournal.com profile] puddingcat ave a marvelous time. Have you got anything special planned, like sightseeing or the like?

I'd love to read about what you're reading. :) College was kind of a reading-killer for me too. I figured out at one point that to do all the reading for three of the four classes I was taking, I'd need to read 200pg a night for the entire semester. Plus the fourth class, which had only papers and no tests and therefore no one did the reading. I don't even want to think about that one; it was all photocopies of dense ancient Egyptian philosophy translated from German. Argh.

We'll probably go into town and see a few things, visit several coffee shops, and so on! Also, the watching of epic DVDs and the drinking of wine is also scheduled!

Your hair sounds cute! I wonder if I can hit 50 books this year, what with the travel and the Kindle.

Ugh, yes. College demands huge amounts of reading. Kind of kills one's desire to read for pleasure, even if one had the time!

It was all photocopies of dense ancient Egyptian philosophy translated from German. Argh.

Yeah, I'm actually already behind by a couple books. I've only read 4 (and a half!) so far. I'm hoping to knock out the rest of book #5 by tomorrow!

I'm sure the Kindle makes reading a bit easier. My mother and I gave my dad one for Christmas, and he's been absolutely addicted ever since. He loves being able to buy books instantly, whenever he wants them. I'm thinking of getting one for myself soon. How do you like yours?

I loooove it. I really wanted something with e-ink, because screens hurt my eyes after a while, and that part is great. I've also had good luck downloading PDFs and the like and converting them with Calibre-- so even with a Kindle you're not stuck with one format (though the PDF conversion can sometimes be weird). I figured I would mostly use it for traveling but I've been using it all the time.
